Diamond color is rated on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (obviously yellow or brownish). Unless you are a diamond expert you will probably not be able to tell the difference between diamonds which are color graded D-I unless you are comparing diamonds side by side. Diamonds with higher color grades are rare and often command a premium price. However, color is largely a matter of personal preference and while some seek a near colorless diamond, others prefer a trace of color.
Colorless Range (D – F)
D,E,F are the highest color grade and is reserved for a truly colorless diamond. It is completely colorless to the naked eye and much sought after because it is so rare.
Near Colorless Range (G – J)
G-J grades diamonds appear nearly colorless to non-diamond experts. This grade offers excellent value for money.
Faint Yellow Color (K – M)
K-M graded diamonds have a minor yellow hue. They are popular choice for the budget conscious.
Yellow Range Color (N – Z)
N-Z graded diamonds and lower color grades have lightly tinged yellow color. They are a good alternative for the budget conscious who prefer a diamond with some color.
